What is Pyrosil D®? And is there a difference between Alloy TD and Pyrosil D®?

What is Pyrosil D®?

Pyrosil D® (a brand name registered to Tyco Thermal Controls) is a nickel-chromium alloy which we use as a specialised heat resistant sheath material for our mineral insulated (MI) thermocouple cables, Type N and Type K.

Pyrosil D® material have some special characteristics which give it excellent oxidation and nitridation corrosion resistance. Pyrosil D® is less prone to degradation in Carbon-based atmospheres. This alloy has proven to be better resistant to oxidation as stainless steels and alloys with higher amounts of Nickel at temperatures up to 1250°C. For Sulphur atmospheres with temperatures above 500°C Pyrosil D® is not recommended.

What is the difference between Alloy TD and Pyrosil D®?

Pyrosil D® (Tyco Thermal Controls)  and  Alloy TD (Incotherm®)  are exactly the same materials, named differently depending on the manufacturer. See our product page for more information on Pyrosil D®.
