Ceramic wire wound sensors

Ceramic wire wound sensors, are the most accurate RTD’s for the upper temperature ranges. The coil inside the ceramic wire wound sensors can move freely which gives it stability and excellent resistance to vibration. Acceleration levels of up to 30g over the frequency range of 10Hz to 1kHz are tolerated. This makes ceramic wire wounds are a perfect fit for Pt100 configurations in mineral insulated RTD cables.

Our product range of PT100 ceramic sensors

For our ceramic wire wound range, we work closely with Sensor Technology. This Brazilian company offers a KN series, K series, KG series and KX series with each its own characteristics to suit different industries. Each series is manufactured, calibrated, and tested to IEC specifications.

KN series

The KN Series ceramic wire wound PT100 RTDs are designed for general uses where temperature stability and accuracy are needed. They are well-suited for industrial resistance thermometers used in processes such as in chemical industries, power generation facilities, and analytical equipment.

K series

The K Series ceramic wire wound PT100 RTDs are designed for use in resistance thermometers that demand temperature stability above 800°C, precision, and resistance to high temperature shocks. They are ideal for use in chemical and power generation facilities, analytical instruments, and any situation where superior temperature stability and resistance to sudden temperature changes are essential.

KG series and KX series

The KG and KX series PT100 RTDs are designed for general applications that require consistent temperature stability. They are particularly suited for use in industrial resistance thermometers, with applications including chemical processing, power generation facilities, and analytical instruments.

Application of ceramic wire wound sensors

The ceramic wire wound sensors are the solution for processes requiring stability at extreme temperatures and excellent thermal shock resistance. Examples of such industries are chemical and power generation plants, analytical equipment and process monitoring. Ceramic wire wounds are also highly suitable for cryogenic temperature measurement.

Alternative products

Another kind of Pt100 RTD which we stock  is a thin film Pt100 sensor.  There is some overlap in the properties of both thin film and wire wound sensors. A thin film RTD is cheaper, has a very flat profile and is even more resistant to vibration.

However, in general terms if you need a very accurate RTD along a wide temperature range, especially at the upper ranges, the higher cost of a wire-wound resistor is worth the extra investment.
