Type R thermocouples are designed for very high-temperature applications and are often preferred over Type S due to their slightly higher output and improved stability. These thermocouples are also used in lower temperature applications because of their high accuracy and stability.
Like type S, type R thermocouples are suitable for continuous use in oxidizing or inert gas atmospheres, with an operating temperature limit of up to 1600°C. However, users should be cautious of embrittlement due to contamination.
Are you in need of a complete sensor rather than just wire?
Visit our high-temperature thermocouple page. On this page, complete assemblies are explained, and through our brochure, you can directly configure one.

These thermocouples are essential in sectors where high-temperature accuracy is crucial. Key industries include aerospace for jet engine control, chemical industries for sensitive technologies, nuclear energy, glass manufacturing for softening processes, pyrometallurgy, automotive industry for safety sensors, military, and various electrical applications.
Furthermore, they are well-suited for vacuum furnaces and recommended for use in oxidizing atmospheres but are prone to contamination, thus requiring protective measures.
These thermocouples are also extensively used in the medical field, as well as in scientific and research equipment, for precise temperature measurement across a range of devices.
